Born in 1958 in Santander, Spain, Cobo studied at Facultad de Bellas Artes San Fernando in Madrid and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Cobo’s work derives from a fascination with the human condition. His sculptures of children invoke the innocence and infinite wonder of youth while freezing them in a single moment forever barring the possibility of future development

Cobo’s works are represented in many public and private collections in Europe and in the United States, and have been exhibited in numerous international gallery and museum exhibits, including the Museo Thyssen Boremisza in Madrid and Kalamazoo Institute of Art in MI.

Jose Cobo completed several life-size and larger than life size commissions of public sculpture in Spain, one of them is a group of eleven life size figures.

Fully conversant in all techniques of sculpture, from bronze to cast glass, in recent years Cobo became interested in working with synthetic materials, especially with epoxy resin, using his own innovative technology for coloring and molding.
